4/4/09

Tired of the same old runs?  Longing for something like the Colonial Run? Me, too.  The best we can manage this week is the reverse Colonial Run. I suspect the first part of the path is under water so we will run it in reverse. Meet in my office parking lot (510 College Ave.)  7:00 Am.

Those hearty ones preparing for the Kenosha Marathon will start earlier. Perhaps they will start the run after dinner at the King & I. Mike S, suggested that they need only close the bars and start from Milwaukee.  I can put some water out at, oh say, K & Highway 38.

Coffee: Java Vino.

March 28th

This weeks run: Start at my house and then run to the lighthouse. You won’t believe this, but this was the group’s selection (no kidding) although it lets me sleep in a bit longer. 465 Melvin Ave., the southeast corner of Melvin and Wisconsin. Melvin if the first stop light on Main Street north of the zoon. West two block from Melvin and Main.

7:00 AM start.

Also, for a reason unknown to me Thai food is the next topic. A number of the women agreed to meet at the King and I Restaurant downtown Milwaukee for dinner. This is not limited to the runners so spouses etc. are welcome. Dinner is scheduled for Friday, April 3 at 6:00 PM. If you are going please email Kristin Fritz by Friday of this week and she will make reservations. Someone will supply exact directions to me before April 3. I have a pretty good idea where it is located and can drive there but hesitate to give specific directions.

Kristin’s email is:

kfritz@RA.rockwell.com

Soon conditions will permit us to return to the bike trail.

Many thanks to Greg & family for hosting our annual New Years Day Run. The food was great, the house warm after a windy run, and the company, as always, lively. It was an excellent way to start the New Year. Thanks again.

7:00 AM - SATURDAY

Apparently no decision was made about this Saturday’s Run/Walk. Boldly moving forward (which usually means someone will reply that a decision was indeed made and I have it wrong thereby creating confusion) and following up on the only email I received, Saturday’s Run will start at Lakeshore Towers (Park Here). This would mean, I again suggest and await the correction, that coffee will be at Java Vino.

From Joe Sosa:

Hello friends and running partners,

I wanted to let everyone know about the Ophelia Project Run/Walk taking place next Saturday, August 16 @ 6pm. The run/walk will include both a competitive 5k run and a fun 2 mile walk.

This event will be taking place on the Racine Lakefront at North Beach. I will include links to both the home page of the event and an online registration site. The courses will run around the lakefront on mostly roads/pathways in the surrounding area, however a portion of the 5k run will be on the beach itself which should make for a unique experience.

The Ophelia Project is an organization that promotes healthy peer relationships in schools
("anti-bullying") and has a chapter in Southeast Wisconsin.

Many local downtown businesses have donated prizes for the event that will be raffled off following the completion of the run/walk. A local artist will be making the award medals.

This is a family event! Invite the little ones, the non-runners and the grandparents! There
also will be post race party at the North Beach Oasis.

The registration cost is $20 before August 10 and $25 after for individuals. There are also family and team discounts.

Come out and support a new late summer event in Racine!

Saturday's Run

I guess most of you didn’t get enough of the Lighthouse Run. Bill tells me that you selected the Lakeshore Towers as our Saturday Run.

The Lighthouse Run results don’t seem to be in a searchable format so you will have to report your results at Java Vino after Saturday’s Rim/Walk.

Saturday -- May 10 -- 7:00 a.m.

We will try something new. Reverse Colonial Run. The first part of the Colonial run may be a little mushy along the river so we thought we would try something new and run it in reverse. So meet at my parking lot (510 College Ave) and head down 6th Street to the bike trial and then run it in reverse until you wish to stop or you get your feet wet.

Last Saturday’s Races:

Flying Pigs Marathon-and-then-a-little-more-because-it-was-so-much-fun:

Bill Folk: 5:05:57
Kim Carey: 4:00:34
Yemi Bullen: 4:13:23 (first ever marathon)

For Indy half:
Mari Danzer: 1:58:19
Julie Veltus: 2:25:32

Good work all.

Saturday -- May 3rd

We neglected to select a route for this Saturday’s Run/Walk. I guess I will have to make an executive decision. It’s lonely at the top. Ore so when I realize nearly every weather prediction I have made this year has been wrong. So will go with weather.com and predict rain and declare we will run from the Lakeshore Towers to avoid mud on the bike trail. This may mean you should bring sunscreen.

7:00AM as usual

Many will be at the Flying Pigs Marathon and the Indy Half Marathon. Good luck to all of you.

Saturday the 29th

I think it is time for me to stop predicting when we will be able to run the bike paths again. You may recall that last week’s run was anticipated to be the last run before the last of the snow cleared the bike paths. Well, I chucked my crystal ball into the garbage and will simply sit back and wait for better weather.
Next week we will run from Lakeshore Towers. 7:00 AM.

22nd of March

This Saturday’s Run: Church Run. Meet at my office parking lot (510 College Ave.).

7:00 AM as usual.

I hope we can hit the bike trails next week. The snow, at long last, looks to be in full retreat.

Coffee Java Vino.

We now officially have a walking component.

3/8/08

Who could have predicted this winter. I think all of this week’s snow has arrived.
Last week we had a guest from the U. P. join us in his travels. Hope Dave joins us on his way home.

This week the group runs from the Lakeshore Towers (park here). Coffee at Java Vino.

If your preference is cross country skiing, Johnson Park at 7 AM. I don’t recall skiing into the second week of March, but I guess this makes up for the winters when there was no snow.
